I am all moved in to the new apartment and the moving went better than I expected. First, it only took me 3.5 hours to move myself in a small car. That includes my desk, chairs and table. Second, I didn't kill myself or break anything.
But then the next day (last Thursday) I wanted to kill myself. New Roommate has a ton of crap. Not more than the average person and no more than I have in storage in California. However, more than you want to move in 80 degree weather down a flight of stairs and then up 1.5 flights of stairs. But we made it.
Aside from moving, I have been getting used to the new apartment, the new walk to work, and settling in at work.
It talkes me abotu 40 minutes to walk to work and I think the distance is between 1.5 and 2 miles. By car it is at least 2 miles but I cut through a few parking lots and back roads so I think it is a little shorter on my walk. I am hoping to walk to work 75% of the time. I say that because it is getting really hot here and I don't want to walk to work and be sweaty when I get there.
We also do not have cable or a DVD player or the Internet. And we have no plans to get them. New Roommate thinks this makes us hobos because we have to go to the library. However, we don't want to pay for any of this stuff and it is not free so it will be interesting to see how long we hold out.
No internet and no DVD player? Are you crazy!? I can live without cable -- and did for years. I could live without a DVD player too (probably), but the internet is another option. It is a requirement. Step into the late 1990's and get it!
